BIOGRAPHY

My name is Bishop Harber (Prof. B, Professor B, Mr. B, Mr. Bishop—take your pick, just not Mr. Harber). I have baccalaureate studies in Sociology and Business Administration from the University of North Texas (1991); a B.S, University Studies [communications, social sciences, and humanities] (2014) and a B.A, Psychology (2015)  from the University of Texas—Arlington and University of Texas—Permian Basin, respectively; an M.S, Applied Psychology (2018) from Angelo State University; and, finally, an M.A., Clinical Mental Health Counseling (2023) from the University of Akron.

In addition, I have both lived experience and formal education in philosophy, sociology, and theology.

I currently teach Introduction to Psychology (PSYCH-100) at the University of Akron through the Wayne Campus.

When not preparing for classes—which seems like a never ending pursuit—I am a published author in psychology and theology (and one fiction novella), and a published dark fiction/horror author under a nom de plume. I also assist my autistic adult child through life with my husband, and make funny faces at a pack of puppies (two Huskies and a German Shepherd), and two indolent black cats.

I am also a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) currently working at Red Oak Behavioral Health in Akron, Ohio specialized in individual counseling with a focus on residential treatment via The Sanctuary Model and utilizing therapeutically-applied role-playing games (TA-RPG), Lego® Therapy, and collaborative world-building through a research collaborative, Gamescapes Play Therapy.

I don’t know really know what I’m going to do when I grow up—that assumes there is a plan to grow up and I don’t know yet that is in the cards. For the moment, I have accomplished both the life dreams of my teenage years: (Part A) teaching at the university level and (Part B) working as a therapist while advocating for undervalued and underserved populations. Where I go next is anyone’s guess. For now, I’m just enjoying the journey.
